Getting to Proficiency:
Helping Maine Graduate Every Student Prepared
Glenburn School Department has adopted a standards-based system of
learning consistent with Maine law, which means that after January
1, 2018, the awarding of a diploma will be contingent on the demonstration of proficiency in the content areas and Guiding Principles and the Learning Results. http://www.maine.gov/doe/proficiency/index.html
Proficiency-based learning and grading are motivated by a simple but powerful principle:
Schools not only teach students the most important knowledge and skills they will need to succeed in life, but they also make sure students
have learned them. It’s that simple.
